Today is President’s Day and because of the holiday, I thought it would be fun to incorporate that into our homeschool day. I have a preschooler and a tot-schooler so of course the books and crafts need to be fun, yet simple. Here are a few great books to read to any kid for President’s Day!
Preschool books include:
- Duck for President by Doreen Cronin
- Vote! by Eileen Christelow
- God Bless America by Irving Berlin
Grade 1 and up (right):
- Presidents of the United States by Reading Discovery
All the books mentioned are great for kids of many ages and introduce not only what a president is and does, but also a song about America. I really like God Bless America because of this. The illustrations are fantastic and fun for the kids while also being simple enough for even young preschoolers to follow along.
The craft we made today was based on the book Duck for President and is super simple and cute!
You will need:
- Blue, red, white, and yellow construction paper
- Elmer’s glue
- White washable tempera paint
- Glue stick
- Silver glitter
- Scissors

Cut out three strips of the white construction paper for the white stripes then cut out the shape of Duck from the story in white as well. Cut the beak and two feet based on the book character.

First step is having your child put handprints on the red construction paper. They should be facing the outside of the page to act as the duck’s wings.

Then, have them glue the pieces for Duck in the middle of their handprints.

Next step is glueing on the stripes of the flag and then the blue patch for the stars.

Final step is putting dots of the Elmer’s glue on the blue patch and then adding the silver glitter so the stars really shine!

Don’t forget to draw eyes on Duck! And you are finished. Now is the time to sit back and enjoy their finished product.

Super fun, super cute, and super simple! We had so much fun making our craft and reading our books. Let me know your plans for President’s Day in the comments below!
