*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review*
I have yet to find one of Staci’s books that don’t make me want to curl up in a ball and cry for a week just because it is over and I’m forced to continue with my life. “Piece of Work” was no different.
Rin is your average girl who is tall and lanky, a little shy and awkward, and is a grad student looking to start her internship at The Met. She loves art and history, but her first day at the jobs proves that she needs to gain some confidence in order to enjoy herself there. Her friends know just what to do and take her shopping for the perfect clothes that make her look amazing and of course convince her to wear her sexy red lipstick. Her new makeover gives her the confidence she needs and turns her into the person she has always truly been.
Court is the art curator at The Met and never gave Rin a second glance, until the day she came in wearing a skirt and that banging red lipstick. He could not take his eyes off her and even though he had one rule, never get involved with his interns, he couldn’t seem to stay away.
Rin is shocked when Court takes her into a room with The Lamentation on an easel and accuses her of things she never even thought of while also making her feel as though she is the most important thing in the world, it throws her on a roller coaster of emotions. As much as Court tries to make things right, he keeps managing to hurt every time he thinks he’s making her feel better.
This book was absolutely amazing! I would say it is one of the best if not THE best books Staci has written. As always, I was hooked from the beginning and could not put it down. It was nice to see a shy character in this book whereas most of the characters in her books are extremely outspoken. I could definitely identify with Rin a little better. I loved being able to see how Rin took control of herself and blossomed in this book.
Court was an asshole, but it was so apparent that he truly didn’t mean to be and that he was just trying to do what he thought was right and the best thing about it, is he was trying to win Rin because he knew she was truly what he wanted.
Such a cute, funny, romantic read that I would be able to read again and again and still get just as much enjoyment out of it. I love her writing style and I can see Staci’s improvements in every single book. She keeps getting better and better. Thank you for writing Staci. You’re amazing!
Overall, I rate this title with 5 notes!
